I read a lot. It's a great way to procrastinate, especially when so much of my other procrastination time is spent watching documentaries, which is kind of sad.
However, recently, some of the fan fiction I've read has actually rubbed me the wrong way. I love romance. Falling in love, steamy sex, everything in between. Bring it on. However, in a lot of the stories I've read (not necessarily newer ones, either), it seems to me that a lot of authors have a very difficult time negotiating the difference between love and lust.
For me, the ideal romance-themed story would be one where the reader can fall in love with the characters. I especially enjoy it if the love is hard-won, and the relationship actually meaningful when it's achieved. I do not understand how authors can write someone else up as viewing another person as an object of sexual obsession and label it as love. I know I'm in a bad fandom for it (and it's an issue with a single particular pairing, namely JaeVin, though other pairings have similar issue on a smaller level, but jeez.
I don't know if I'm making much sense. Anyone else noticed this?

I've never watched The Notebook and I'm no romantic genius [more like romantically retarded] but I think romance should be gradual...then again romance for me is usually unspoken and just carried on with no clear indication of what the couple should be: like when a girl asks a guy what they are when they just gel and become friends with benefits or some shiz like that. You get me? I like that kind of idiosyncrasy even if it barely exists.
Otherwise, I rarely read anything these days as it is.
Romance isn't my strong point. I just try to forge it best as I could. xD

qimbra I agree, gradual is awesome. =D In most of my stories, I never hit the 'I love you' point because relationships are growing. =)

I've actually never seen The Notebook, either. I agree that I do like gradual, but I also like it to be clearly romance.

Hey, even if I haven't seen it, crying over The Notebook seems to be legit. At least she doesn't get teary-eyed at Batman romance or something.
... though, really...

I mean, I get teary-eyed over Batman romance, but... I write gay K-pop fan fiction, no judging.

DUDE I cry over songs. I'm a crier. lol But seriously. The Notebook is about long-lost romance that turned into new romance only to have alzheimer's take it away again. *sobbing now*... *not really but could if I thought about it too much*
