Does anyone ever use them??
I occasionally do, mostly when I have a story that focuses on several characters of importance. A lot of my stories focus mainly on one character, with only a few secondaries, so I keep a good grip on things, but as I said, when I have a story with many leads (more than three) I tend to use them. Does anyone else? And why/when? Do they help you?

I don't. Even for original fiction, I don't, and I never would for fan fiction. I don't write characters unless I know them well enough to write them without a major reference to fall back on.

If I am writing a story and not a oneshot, I will use these; Well, more of description of the characters I am using. If I am making OC's for any reason, I will make a whole sheet out so I remember how they are and what they are doing in the story. I really like creating characters (I have a binder dedicated to this), even if I never use them. The RPG's I have been in (like D&D and WOD) I use character sheets for them. I do have an idea for an original fic, but I am having too much fun writing fan fiction to really focus on it.

Zoni I can understand that for band fics, but to be honest I've only written three band fics ever... and all smut. LOL. But for an AU they seem important for me because there are so many things that build up to bring the story itself to life. I am more like Amalya in the aspect that I write fanfiction as like... using the idols as actors to play out my storylines. frootloops101, yeah I don't think I've ever done one for a oneshot either. Mainly just super in-depth AU stories. But a full binder, WOW 0.0

tigress You'll find that I'm an elitist in that respect. I'm of the very strong opinion that original fiction should stay original fiction. AU is only still fan fiction if you remain true to the characters.

Yes, I remember reading that in your tutorials. Which are incredibly in-depth, by the way 0.0 I wondered actually if you would ever consider writing such articles for the review shop I work for... though without the cursing haha =D
Obviously I disagree with that bit, but I am happy to agree to disagree. LOL
