Ah yeah me either. Potholes OR plot holes. =D That's why when they take a new direction I sit back, reread my story, and rewrite the outline before continuing.

Plot holes are my bane. Since my FF7 fic Against A Brick Wall and I re-read it, I realised so many plot holes that I stopped writing it and kind of started writing "outlines." What I do, isn't exactly plotting scenes. I usually just look at each character individually. More than likely I know what roles these characters are going to play, so I just need to know their end games and their back stories. Mostly I come up with the back story to explain their personalities and if anyone is going to die [which is rare] then I write those out in another part. If certain people are going to end up in a relationship then I write that down too.
If there are certain scenes that I want then I jot them down; more often than not I don't write anything because I usually remember. After reading them over, then I decide where loose ends are and where the open ends should remain.
The motivation to write is low though T_T.
I think you may enjoy the story.
So yeah. I can't skip not knowing what my characters do and what particular role they play. It doesn't have to be "main character" or "support" or anything of the sort or round, static, dynamic, etc. I just need my characters to be in a certain place and I can work them pretty well. I simply can't leave out my character builds. I can wing a plot like no tomorrow if I'm feeling lazy, so long as I know what my characters are doing.
Which, I guess, is why I can't end a story xD
