I can answer that: attention whoring.
I occasionally showcase really terrible fan fiction on my blog. Call me a bitch, but I seriously have fun with it and I have a few rules. Among those rules is the fact that I will never, NEVER, pick on an author who puts forth even a minimal amount of effort (like, say, spell check).
About a month ago, I had at one of the terrible authors (we even read some of one of her stories aloud, word for word and with horrible punctuation) and I got told off for it by a friend of hers. So, I figured, I'd go check out the friend, too, who had boldly proclaimed that the terrible author DID edit and DID spell check.
Spotted this three sentences in the first story of hers I clicked:

LMAO. Oh gosh that is certainly a facepalm moment. >.< I can admit that some of my older stories, I go back now and read them and am astonded at the mass of typos... (a short wak, for instance) and yet I do try to fix them. And I like to get reviews because typically they point things out that really help me to grow and get better! I can't fathom wasting a reviewer's time to come up with (an in-depth review requested, mind you!!!) something that is meant to help the author grow and yet ignore it totally. Just.. WTF. She's lucky that Librarian didn't Blacklist her. >.<

Spell check'll catch most typos. That's part of why I am so utterly baffled by authors who don't spell check. Seriously. It's one button, takes two seconds, and voila. You save yourself a massive amount of embarrassment.

Yes. And if for some reason, your computer does not have it (I've had one that does not), the internet happily provides a free spell checker. First one to pop up on google. But noooooo >.<

I am a horrible speller, and always have been, but since I started writing, my spelling has gotten a bit better. If the spell check thing doesn't know what I mean, I do ask Jiayun a lot, or I type whatever creation I made into google in hopes it would help. Grammar is another thing that I struggle with. Both have never come easy for me, but I will somehow get my fics spot checked (like 95% of the time) before posting anything cause I know I will miss things.

frootloops101, yeah I struggle with typos. I swear, four out of every ten words will have some sort of switch or something in it. So I do the same... proofread proofread proofread. >.< I do not understand how anyone could stand to post things they haven't checked over.

I'm actually more critical of my writing style than I am of my typos. The oneshot I'm working on right now, I just keep going, "This writing style is really creepy. I don't know if I should keep it... oh, look, I typoed that... BUT THE WRITING STYLE IS SO WRONG."

Creepy?? 0.o But I do know what you mean... there are some stories that no matter what, I cannot get into the right feel for them and the style is just WRONG. >.<

Creepy. I'll post a sample when I start working on the second draft and you can see what I mean. It's also different subject matter than I usually tackle, and that's really not helping, but eh.

Ahhh Zoni I so would not call that creepy. It feels a bit detached but that seems so fitting for that type of story/scene. I... love it 0.0
