I don’t know about you, but I love to hear about how other writers work.
Where do you write? Typically on my couch but sometimes on my bed and RARELY at the kitchn table (mostly in the winter for that one because the kitchen is the warmest room haha)
What are your writing habits? I can't say I actually have any. I can write to music and sometimes I do, but I usually don't bother; I can write any time of day and anywhere that I'm comfortable, with outside noise or not *shrugs* ... I guess I usually just have a glass of water (or coffee), though, that is my one thing. Gotta have liquid.
How do you write your first drafts? AH the first idea usually comes when I am either trying to sleep or off working, so I type a random thought into my phone notes. Then I write the basic idea into my computer and make sure to have the idea of how I will start and where I will end, and what kind of feel or lesson the story will have/tell.
Subsequent drafts? When I actually decide to start writing, it becomes a major draft as to even separating chapter by chapter what will happen to get from point A to point B and finally point C. I write mainly short stories so I don't do the 3/7/21 formula, but I do try to keep my chappies around the same length and make sure to split them so that one doesn't have everything and the next nothing. And I NEVER write without a completed outline. Do you keep a writing journal or notebook? Ah no, I don't like to write things by hand because I WILL lose them, no question about it.
How do your organize your journal/notebook? Since I don't have one... I organize my writing into folders on my drive... 'Ideas', 'To Be Written', 'Up Next', 'Currently Writing', 'Completed'. And within all of those folders are more folders; ones for outlines, for oneshots, for chaptered stories, for Zalthia world... etc. I'm a little OCD with it all I think LOL.
What’s your biggest challenge as a writer? Forming coherent and cohesive dialogue; I rely a lot on telling the story through the actions instead of showing it through a person's words. Dialogue is one of the areas in which I am quite weak and I am trying to work on it... ish... >.<
Do you have a good luck talisman? What is it? .... coffee?? LOL
Which writers have most influenced you or inspired you? Robert Jordan and the way that he had such vision for the characters and where they would go; I love his writing more than anything.
What genre(s) do you (aspire to) write? I much prefer fantasy but angst is also up there; fantasy allows me to pull in all the elements of magic and swords and fighting that I love, but angst is like a cleansing for my soul. I love playing with character's emotions and if I can pull emotion from the reader then I have done well. =)
Any quirky habits you’ve developed? ... not that I know of. LOL.
Are you inclined to learn by primarily by
reading other writers you love?
using advice in writing books?
workshops and/or classes?
hard-headed trial and error?
a combination of these? ... and constructive criticism from others. Once something is pointed out to me as NOT working, then I try my best to remember that and not make that mistake again. But also reading authors that I enjoy helps me to see the weaknesses and holes in my own writing, so I try to learn from everything.

Where do you write? At work, sometimes. My living room is good, too. However, the best writing always comes out of coffee shops. The atmosphere and a hot drink usually make me feel very productive. What are your writing habits? Writing goes easiest with me when I'm multitasking. So, I crank it up. I put on an episode of something repetitive that I've seen before (like Law and Order), open my instant messengers and have at it. How do you write your first drafts? I have a seven (occasionally eight) step writing process that I follow to a tee. Before I can even get to my first draft, there are several steps I need to follow. However, once my concept statement is solid, my outline is complete and I've got a Write Out in hand, I write it the same way everyone else does: with fingers on a keyboard. Subsequent drafts? Strangely, also written with fingers on a keyboard. My first drafts are usually sloppy, with room to play. Second drafts are a distilled version, nothing more. I just go through and rewrite, copying down the first version and making necessary changes as I go. How do your organize your journal/notebook? No journal. I have a writing folder, divided by story types (Fan Fiction, Original, Tutorials). Within my fan fiction folder, I have about 150 folders, each labeled for a separate story. If the story itself has chapters, I have folders inside for those chapters individually. What’s your biggest challenge as a writer? Good English, honestly. As an ESL speaker, it's difficult to make a story cohesive when it comes to both description and dialogue. Occasionally, I'll go back through and read a chapter and it won't even make sense to me. I also have a very difficult time with making my writing feel organic. I think that's due to my autism, however. It's my natural tendency to list things off in a very static, detached order rather than portraying an organic scene. Do you have a good luck talisman? What is it? Um. Uh. Porn? Which writers have most influenced you or inspired you? I honestly don't pay much attention to other authors anymore, at least not professional ones. Very few have inspired me. What genre(s) do you (aspire to) write? I used to have an abject hatred of romance. Now, it's what I enjoy writing above all else. However, my true favorite lies in writing dark, sadistic horror. Hard to do in K-pop, but I've exercised that in other fandoms with glee. Any quirky habits you’ve developed? My entire writing method. And I yell at my computer, which is named Eli, whenever it screws up. That gets me weird looks. Especially if I'm in a coffee shop. ("Goddamnit, Eli! I said cock! Not coke!") Assassinating that last question and answering free-form: I am a classroom learner. However, now, I find that most of my learning actually comes from tutoring and teaching others. I've been doing private writing instruction for five or six years now, and it always surprises me what helps each student. What works for one person won't work for another. By paying attention to what they need to improve, I often find myself improving as well.

LOL at some of your wording (i.e. assassinating that last question, the good luck talisman, etc), they made me laugh. I have to agree with you on coffee shops, when I lived in the city that was where I wrote. There is such an easy-going environment that simultaneously doesn't allow me to mess around and procrastinate. I am a HORRIBLE procrastinator.

Where do you write? Usually on the couch, or in my room. I wish I could write at work, but there are so many cameras on me at all times, and then when I'm not sitting in an office, I'll be out on the sales floor doing things (I work at Wal-Mart)
What are your writing habits? I have to have some type of background noise. A movie is good, but only if I don't want to watch it lol. Usually putting World War Z on is good, I have seen it so much that I don't have to focus on it. Music is best tho, either kpop or some type of instrumental music. Usually I just type in Epic Music in YouTube and click something lol. I usually will have some soda next to me and maybe some snacky food to keep the energy up lol
How do you write your first drafts? I usually just write to get the idea out, and then I will go back and fix/add/change things as the story progresses
Subsequent drafts? I try to keep chapters within 7,000 to 10,000 words, but it all depends on how the story is going. I tend to like shorter chapters cause I feel it is easier to read sometimes, but again, I just see what the story wants to do.
Do you keep a writing journal or notebook? I have a notebook to write ideas down or if I get plot bunnies, but I don't really write in it.
How do your organize your journal/notebook? I usually make new folders (on the computer) to save new stories in, but that's about it
What’s your biggest challenge as a writer? Being able to write all the time. I try to write everyday, but sometimes if I get too stressed or upset, I can't write. I wish I could though, cause I think it would calm me down. Do you have a good luck talisman? Jiayun lol and Amalya when shes here. I write better when I have someone around me that's writing too
Which writers have most influenced you or inspired you? I don't think any published writers have inspired you, but when I know one of my friends really likes a story, I will try to finish it! What genre(s) do you (aspire to) write? Mostly Action and Drama and Supernatural. I would love to be able to write fantasy, but that does not come naturally to me.
Any quirky habits you’ve developed? A more perverted mind LOL
Are you inclined:
to learn by primarily by reading other writers you love? I learn more when I do things, so even if reading does help a bit, the only way I will learn anything is if I'm the one writing it and making the mistakes to fix
using advice in writing books?
workshops and/or classes?
hard-headed trial and error?

LOL frootloops101 I used to work in retail, so I know how that goes. It sure would be convenient to just be like 'OH plot bunny!' *off to write, be back later* lol

LOL Tigress there have been times I wished I could. Sometimes I would sneak the bathroom just to write a quick note on my phone so I don't forget. I tend to forget things pretty quickly so if I can't write things down, they are usually gone forever!

BWAHAHA okay yes, I did that before. Or... during inventory counts... I could pull out my phone and stick it in between the book shelves to write out a text while my hands were hidden. LOL

I have at least 2 camera's on me in the office I'm in, so I have to be careful, but my managers always text me for things so i guess they have no problem with me having it out lol. I try not to use it when I'm working though, just cause I will lose track of time and be on it for like 20 minutes

LOL ah I actually have a love-hate relationship with my phone... it will only rarely connect to the internet and the keyboard has gotten screwed from my temper tantrums. >.< I don't think I could be on one for that long excepting internet access.

Where do you write? In my room, usually.
What are your writing habits? I like to write in dim lighting or in the dark, since I actually just type these days [if I do write anything] and usually with a random playlist of songs or just a single one on loop.
How do you write your first drafts? I don't write a first draft.
Subsequent drafts? Eh.... N/A?
Do you keep a writing journal or notebook? Only if I feel like I'm going to forget something.
How do your organize your journal/notebook? Eh....I don't?
What’s your biggest challenge as a writer? Ending a story, good follow-ups and interesting dialogue.
Do you have a good luck talisman? Eh...my luck is usually bad so I simply don't keep any. I don't think any would work for me.
Which writers have most influenced you or inspired you? Sidney Sheldon because of his amazingballsiness with suspense and mystery. I'm not good at either of them but oh well.
What genre(s) do you (aspire to) write? Angst, Horror, Crime, Mystery annnnnnnnnnnnnd Drama. Fantasy, too.
Any quirky habits you’ve developed? I don't pay much attention to myself.
Are you inclined to learn by primarily by reading other writers you love? using advice in writing books? workshops and/or classes? hard-headed trial and error?
Just reading in general.

Qimbra, I'm kind of curious -- how can you not write first drafts?

you can stick with Q if it's a lot to write. um, I don't write first drafts because I don't like writing the same thing twice which is probably why I don't outline. if I have the idea in my head and it lays out the way i want it to then i don't need to rewrite anything. and since i type, first drafts don't actually exist for me. i edit as i go along. once i'm done, i'm done. i read it over once and then post. just make sure everything lines up.

Technically, that just means you post first drafts, not that you don't write them. I'm interested to know how you can write as you go, though, I find that amazing.

It's how I started out writing, putting pencil to paper and it stuck. Not to mention that in exams in school growing up, we never had the option to write a first draft. You had to write it then and there so we had no choice but to get it right the first time. So all of that kind of contributed to the whole posting of the first draft.
